The tragedy here is that the dog was not to blame for what happened. The dog didn't know any better. It was bred and trained (and allowed) to be hyper-aggressive. It was only following its instincts.

The fault lies in the (likely backyard) breeders who bred this dog to be violent and the owners who bought it without researching its background and did not train it properly.

Some people will overreact to this story and see it as "evidence" that pit bulls are dangerous. Any dog can be dangerous, regardless of breed, if it's not bred nor trained properly. Failing to neuter the dog also contributes to this negligence, as an unaltered dog is more prone to aggression.
