Fundraising Dinner to Benefit LAPD SWAT Officers

Join the San Fernando Valley Jaycees at California Pizza Kitchen for a flavorsome fundraising event. On Saturday, March 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., proceeds from meals at California Pizza Kitchen at Topanga Plaza Mall - upon presentation of the coupon below - will benefit the families of LAPD SWAT Officers Randall Simmons and James Veenstra.

Officers Simmons was the first SWAT Officer killed in the line of duty, when he was with the SWAT team that responded to a hostage situation in the West Valley. Officer Veenstra was also shot and critically injured that day.

I was pleased to see this post regarding CPK's fundraising efforts for the Simmons and Veenstra families. I even checked my calendar to see if I could attend. I then clicked on the link for the coupon that must be presented to the server. I could not believe what I read.

The coupon stated in part, "Event proceeds void if flyer distributed in or near the restaurant." What in the world is CPK trying to say? What if I wanted to spread the word for other people to eat at CPK so that we could raise some money for the Simmons and Veenstra families? Does this mean I can't print extra coupons for other people who are already in CPK or people passing by outside CPK? This is so absurd, I was disgusted.

And on top of this insult, CPK is donating ONLY 20% of a customer's check to the families!!! This makes me question their true intention. In my opinion, CPK is only trying to get on the bandwagon of a very worthy cause just to promote their restaurant. I am angry and digusted by this shameless self-serving gesture by CPK. I will save my pizza money by boycotting this event and instead, send another check to their trust fund instead. I urge others to do the same.

Here's a hint to the head honcho of CPK....you can't fool everybody. Just because Burger King raised over $70,000 for the Simmons family, it was done with true intentions and ALL the proceeds went to the Simmons family. It won't happen to CPK because of your devious marketing stragedy.
