Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Detectives from Robbery Homicide Division are investigating the murder of a University of Southern California (USC) student.
At about 2:30 this morning, three USC students were walking past a gated multi-unit apartment complex in the area of 28th Street and Orchard Avenue. While walking, a male Black yelled out to the students. Consequently, one of the students became involved in a heated argument with the suspect, which led to a physical fight on the ground.
After the fight, the suspect fled on foot and the victim, 23-year-old Bryan Richard Frost, a student in the USC School of Cinematic Arts, told his friends that he thought he may have been stabbed.
The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Robbery Homicide Division is handling the investigation, and authorities at the campus have issued a student alert. There is no evidence that this incident was gang related.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Robbery Homicide Detectives at 213-485-2155. Southwest is like any other part of the City, just like Southeast, Rampart, Northeast or Wilshire. All susceptible to violent crime; just because USC happens to be located in Southwest doesn't merit it any special treatment, more than the rest of the City. Calling for the Chief to step aside is ridiculous. Crime, overall, is down. Look at the figures. The death of that student is tragic, but he could have walked away from that argument. Most people would have, especially, in that part of town. Poor judgement caused him his life. Grieve for a life cut too short and the pain to his family. Hope that good policework will catch the perpetrator. It may happen with the witnesses that were on hand. Don't automatically bash the Department, that won't solve the problem.

I heard that the argument was about USC not covering the point spread on a recent game.
What was the "vic" doing up at two thirty in the morning, roaming the streets? Shouldn't he be home in bed and/or studying?

To question above on "Shouldn't he be home in bed and/or studying?" -
As a past USC student and a resident intensely familiar with that neighborhood, students often do group projects on campus till fairly late and then walk/bicycle/take-school-offered-escort-service home.
