Los Angeles: On Dec. 5, 2008, at about 3:40 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) West Los Angeles Division detectives arrested 46-year-old Lynford Wiley for possession of a firearm on the grounds of Kenter Canyon Elementary School in the 600 block of North Kenter Avenue in West Los Angeles.
Initially, West Los Angeles Patrol Division officers responded to a call about “a man with a gun on campus” at the school. Upon arrival, officers were directed to a residence adjacent to the campus where they found Wiley and made contact. The suspect was compliant and also consented to a search of his residence. Inside, officers found numerous hand guns, rifles and other weapons.
After his arrest, Wiley was booked at LAPD’s Parker Center Jail and initially held without bail. However, he was arraigned a few days later on Dec. 9 in Los Angeles County Superior Court Division 144 (LAX Municipal Courthouse), and the presiding judge set bail at $500,000. Wiley subsequently posted bail and has been released. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 23 in Department 142 of the LAX Municipal Courthouse.
Anyone with information about Wiley or the incident is asked to contact LAPD West Los Angeles Division detectives at (310) 444-1580. After-hours and on weekends, calls may be directed to a 24-hour, toll-free number at 1-877-LAPD24-7 (527-3247) or by texting CRIMES (274637) and beginning the message with LAPD. Tipsters may also submit information on the LAPD website, www.lapdonline.org. All calls and tips are anonymous.
Wait, so according to this article, a man in his own home was arrested for possesion of firearms even though he and the rest of us"free"citizens of this country are allowed to do so by the 2nd amendment of the constitution... unless he was doing something illegal, I smell a civil rights lawsuit comin'! Way to go there West Latte.

To: "No One Special" Obviously you did not read the news story carefully enough before you went into your 2nd Amendment tirade! You must be a disgruntled LAPD officer with an ax to grind with WLA Area. Yes we have a right to bear arms in certain places, but a school campus (like the Staples Center) isn't one of them. The guy that was arrested must have attended your Constitutional Law class since he stupidly gave up his 4th Amendment rights by consenting to a search of his residence. But then again, hot pursuit may have applied anyway. The WLA officers did a great job protecting the school kids. Please better educate yourself in the future before you make a fool of yourself by criticizing good police work.

Well said Ret. LAPD & Proud. Thanks for your service.

Again, if he was doing something illegal then have at it but if this guy was in his residence or OC'ing (open carry) then all bets are off.. Remember, that Gun Free zone piece of feel good non-sense that was passed does not apply to private residences adjacent to schools..

"No one special..just a citizen..." you're an idiot. Have a little insight and read between the lines if you must; the perp was obviously on school grounds when the call initially came out. You can bear arms in your house, buddy. Not on a school campus, its the law. Columbine. Don't forget.

Really ? Obviously ? You know this because you were the responding ofcr ? Just reading between the lines... But then again, I'm an idiot. Oh wait,I'm not the ret. guy that thinks the staples center is a school campus.. Listen, I was going off of what was posted on this site which wasn't much. Other articles go into details while this one well...not so much. I'm sorry your feelings were hurt if a "citizen" has the audacity to critize what may or may not be a good caper, get over yourselves.

I'm surprised they didn't try to blame the command staff

"No one special..just a citizen" Settle down there, gun fighter! If you are a Copper, with a piss poor attitude like reffering to the LAPD officers at WLA as "West Latte" then please Awe us with your gun fighting war storries there Slappy! But then with 8 - 10 OIS's under your belt I'm sure you could handle the entire South End all by your little lonesome huh? NERD ALERT! That is if you ever develope enough courage to step from behind your key board. I am in full support of the 2nd Ammendment, but c'mon Annie Oakley ease up on the I'm a tough guy pills. Save your tough guy "talk" for your cook-outs, and citizens that don't know any better. I know some coppers at "West Latte" that would clean your clock in any faccett of policing you fancy yourself a pro at! And if your a citizen? Just say thank you, or zip it!

To: "No One Special"- Your use of the word 'caper' is a giveaway that you're a cop. Not a very bright one I might add. Vet was right, you don't pay attention to what you read. He or she didn't say Staples Center is a school campus. "Reasonable" people like myself realize that Vet correctly noted that the Staples Center has a No Gun policy similar to school campuses. For a simpleton like yourself, that means Guns are Not Allowed on the Premises. You're the perfect example as to why the LAPD is lowering its standards by hiring too many, too fast. You are one individual that obviously slipped through the cracks. Shape up before you join the other 7.2% of unemployed americans.

Fonzie, So the fact that I used "Caper" automatically means I'm a "Copper". Please tell me you're a detective...
Vet used Staples as an example of a school campus please re-read the post. Regardless, Vet's example is moot since the staples is a private venue and not a school campus. Any simpleton would know that.
Hey do'er!, safety on and holster would ya?!.. You're going full 'tard... Why are you talking this madness about tough guy pills or cleaning clocks ? Who kicked your puppy ?

I cannot believe I wasted 6 minutes of my life reading and posting to this blog of obviously high levels of testosterone running rampant. Come on, really now, tough guy pills, held upsidedown for his lunch money, kickin puppies and Corky? Corky was the kid with Down Syndrome on the show Life Goes On. just a citizen, go back to trying to talk your way out of a jaywalking ticket and Ret. LAPD & Proud, you need to make better use of your time now, I am sure there is a museum or a grocery store that needs a security guard to better occupy your time, sound like you need to get out a bit. Do'er!??? You called em Corky.

Unbelievable....? Your just as guilty of acting like a child! You wasted another 45 seconds with your diatribe. As for me I will help you out with the propper response.
West Los Anlgeles officers, you did a great job. Keep up the fine work that you and the rest of the men and women of the LAPD do. And thank you for your service.
