What a shame it is that in a short time we will no longer have any gang units on the street. Where is the Mayor?? I have not heard him protest against the disclosure. With all of his tough talk on gangs you would think that he would support us on this issue. But I guess with his background as a member of the ACLU he really doesn't like us anyways unless we can help get him votes.

Way to go LAPD....flush the gang units down the toilet. Financial Disclosure has never been emplemented in any municipal police agency ever. Why..? because it doesn't work. Cherkasky is just trying to rob taxpayers of millions of more dollars.

Time to to take it up to the US Supreme Court.

The 9th Circus is the most overturned court for a reason.

It will be interesting to see what the crime stats will be six months or a year from now. My bet is that it won't all stay in the minus column.

Good.

Well folks you can now say good bye to all the Gang Units and Narcotic Units. The real people to suffer will be the community, everyone get ready for gang crime to kick off again. It's okay patrol isnt that bad. I'll just work the (3) 12 hrs shifts and have (15) days off a month. I dont live in the city of LA. And to all you young P-II and P-III please DO NOT SIGN THE DISCLOUSER!!!!! You gotta stay strong and not do it. No matter what the temptation is to sign it, you cant. If you do, your letting all of your fellow Officer's down.

Most gang homicides are solved within days or hours based off the intelligence gathered by good gang cops.

I'm on my second tour of working gangs and have been doing it for about 5 years now. I volunteered for the assignment the first time, and was asked to come back the second.

I sacrificed a lot of my family time for the city missing numerous functions (little league games, birthdays, etc) because we are needed nights and weekends. I can deal with that and so can my family.

I will not submit my finances (nor my wife's) for some auditor to review just so I can work a gang assignment. And there are many gang cops that feel the same way. It's not worth that much to me.

And most area Captains have no control over how their GEOGRAPHICAL gang units are deployed. Some bureau weenie tucked in a cubicle with a pin map does that. I can't help but wonder that it is PUNITIVE/RETALIATORY because we won't submit to disclosing our finances.

After several years on this department, I see how well the department keeps stuff confidential. Not.

I guess I don't understand. It seems to me that all the experts in this field agree that disclosure won't work. That, combined with the obvious morale / staffing issues make it a nonsense proposal.

I think the monitor is the only person happy about this. After all, it did earn them a bit more money prior to the CD expiring.

Like other great things the LAPD used to do, gang and narcotic enforcement will now become second-rate.

When are we going to stop treating our LAPD officers like they are criminals? Do our officers have any privacy? These men and women dedicate their lifes to protection and service. But, who has their back? I would like to commend the Pacific Division for its fine work over the last five years that I have been involved with them for persevering everything.

Good luck finding people to sign.

I am retired LAPD however my husband works gangs and there is no way I'm letting anyone from the department back into my financial business. But then again, it wouldn't be so bad to rub in their face that I make more than Bratton now!

Hooray for J Q Public and Glad to be gone. If the department is so concerned about potential financial abuses by department employees, WHY DON'T THEY START AT THE TOP? Might be surprised at what comes out in the wash. Yep. The administration is demolishing the departments ability to conduct pro-active police work. No wonder the "crime stats are down." All you need to do is manipulate the reporting procedures, and sure enough, the crime rate will drop. No less crime, just different criteria for reporting crimes.

I underestand the principal behind this order from the CD. But, I dont remember too many stories about cops on the take. In a dept of almost 10,000 you're going to have one or two wayward souls but thats not a reason to punish the other 9,997. But then again, LAPD has a great history of punishing everyone for what 4 officers did in '91 or what 2 officers did in '98. But hey I can see really good at night because of one officer from '05 or so. . .

I can't even think what my area is going to be like now that my gang officer is going to leave. I don't want to see him leave but he would be crazy to sign this disclouser. As much help and comfort he has been, I don't want him to sign it. I don't want my neighborhood over run with gangs and drugs and I would do anything to keep him but, this isn't the way to go. I certainly hope that the union does not take this as the last word on this issue. Officer R I hope things work out and you get to stay in the gang unit but in case you don't, thank you so much for all your help over the past year or so. What you did for me goes beyond work duties and I could never find the right words to express my gratitude and thank you seems so small in relation to what you did.

Just remember that Financial Disclosure Form is an official document of the Department. Hence, the defense team or civil attorneys can subpoena that official document through "DISCOVERY." Worst yet, someone might just make copies and sell them to the "OTHER SIDE" or post them on the internet for all the ID thieves to steal.

A quote from Lethal Weapon-The Movie, "Maybe the Fire Department is hiring."

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Public,

I'm sorry to tell you that the safe neighborhood you currently live in will be gone. I'm sorry to tell you that gangs will now run it, It's not my fault or the fault of my fellow Officer's. Its the fault of politics and lack of leadership. Maybe you as the public, the people I work for can voice your opinion. You can protest and call or write the Mayor. And you should keep this in mind when you vote to re-elect him. I promise you crime WILL go up and Gangs crime will go up. You as the folks who live in this city need to voice your thoughts. Its time to be heard and say "NO" to this. Gang and Narcotics Officer's will be gone and with gangs come narcotics and murders. I'll make a deal with you Mr. and Mrs. Public, If every command Officer including Chief Bratton signs the disclouser than so will I.

If you have nothing to hide, why worry? The Financial Disclosure is just to make sure everyone's in the up-and-up.

If you're legit, then you shouldn't be too legit to quit. Stay Gangs or Narco--don't worry, be happy, it's still the best place for OT.

Ok, I will say it! Any Officer that signs the FD will be looked at as a SCAB, not trusted and certianly not given any info! Remember the NFL strike anyone?

Daddy,
By your comment it's still the best place for OT I guess you work for the department...Well if you do and you have nothing to hide and are more than willing to sign this document, why not sign your name to your post? I don't work for this department I work for Corrections and if they started to do this at my department for certain positions I would not sign it. I have nothing to hide. I have a mortgage, one credit card that has a balance of $1000.00 or less and a car payment of $399.00. I buy things cash and I keep my stuff to a minimum. I have a rather large IRA and a nice little egg nest in case of an emergency. My biggest vice I love to travel. But I still would not sign this document, what I do with what I earn is my business. Unless there is reason to investigate me keep your nose out of my business. And until my boss who lives way outside his means signs this document don't expect me to. The boss lives so far outside his means that he often makes money comments and has been behind on his payments to everyone more then once this year. Anyway, bottom line if everything is legit, spell it out one letter at a time and be happy to do so.

I hope when these Gang and Narco ofcrs leave their sweet spots, they'll go to Patrol, instead of PSB or Recruitment, or Training,

because we need more bodies in Patrol. More bodies in Patrol equals safer neighborhoods. Patrol is where it's at.

As for the scare tactics being employed, ie 'when Narco and Gang ofcrs leave, the city's going to fall into chaos like Mexico',

c'mon we all know there are hundreds of new ofcrs itching to take your spots in Narco and Gangs, and are more than willing to comply.

(looks like we're finally getting bodies for patrol)

This is a travesty of Justice!

No American should ever be subjected to this kind of injustice.

If you work Narco or Gangs, please contact your local ACLU.

They will fight for your Civil Liberties, so you can keep the City safe!

Financial disclosure should start at the top and not only with gang and narcotics officers. At the top I mean Mayor Villaraigosa and Chief Bratton. I'd love to see what Chief Bratton makes on the side writing books and doing speaking engagements, not to mention the bacon that Mrs. Court TV Bratton brings home each week. A narco officer like myself WILL sign the disclosure form when Deputy Chiefs Paysinger, Moore, Beck, MacArthur and Roupoli sign on the dotted line too.

I own a cheap piece of land with my Dad out of state. By agreeing to this, i would also be required to give his personal info as well. Not fair to hime. This is a matter of principle. I worked two tours in Crash and GED...Best time i ever had...looks like those days are gone.

notNarcobutPatrol,

I agree with your sentiments about officers needed in patrol.

Many gang officers have specialized investigative/observation/surveillance skills that are sought out and needed in other parts of this department.

I admire your enthusiasm. Though if gangs and narco have to sign disclosure today, then rest of the department will probably follow suit to fit the needs of the consent decree. A consent decree that has rules that seem to change daily.

Just because you can drive around in a slick top with a "G" in your unit designation, does not make one a "gang cop". It takes almost two years of working in that assignment to know what you are doing. It takes a lot of hard work to have DA's trust you enough to put you on the stand in a 186.22 case.

You don't learn it on your own either. There are plenty of coppers and detectives that help you on the way. Many of whom will split when this disclosure comes to town, two year window or not.

Connie,

This isn't rocket science. If you don't want to sign this document, don't sign it. No one's forcing anyone to. If you don't sign, you go back to patrol. If you do, you stay. It's really simple. But, as the post above stated, "there are hundreds of new ofcrs itching to take your spots in Narco and Gangs, and are more than willing to comply".

Your,
Daddy
