Los Angeles: Los Angeles police officers issued hundreds of citations to motorists who failed to yield to pedestrians during a sting operation in Northridge.
The traffic enforcement operation took place on Friday, May 8, 2025 between 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the intersection of Reseda Boulevard and Vincennes Street. Although there has been a 17% reduction of auto vs. pedestrian traffic collisions in the San Fernando Valley, there has been a 30% increase of these types of collisions in Devonshire Area, thus far this year. In an effort to increase pedestrian safety, officers from Devonshire Area and Valley Traffic Division conducted aggressive enforcement on the state’s pedestrian safety laws, specifically, laws requiring drivers to yield to pedestrians within crosswalks.
The enforcement resulted in 187 motorists being cited primarily for drivers failing to yield to pedestrians crossing within a marked crosswalk. Police officers, in plain clothes, walked across Reseda Boulevard and when motorists failed to yield to the pedestrians they were stopped and cited.
California has a right-of-way law for pedestrians within crosswalks, either marked or unmarked, which requires drivers to yield to pedestrians and exercise due care for their safety.
The Los Angeles Police Department would like to remind motorists and pedestrians to be extra cautious when driving or walking across streets.
For further information contact Detective William Bustos, Valley Traffic Division, at 818-644-8020.
Glad you're doing this. I run 10 miles a day so I use crosswalks all the time. Amazing the number of people who don't stop. I feel sorry for the elderly and handicapped who are like sitting ducks every time they enter a crosswalk. Good job LAPD, keep up the hard work.

Wish you would do this in Hollywood. I, too, am a runner and avid walker, but crossing every street is a struggle with motorists who will not yield even when I have a green light with fresh "walk" sign

Unfounded tickets. L.A.P.D =

Mike, you just want people to rant at you, don't you? How are the tickets unfounded? As a driver, I'm frustrated when I see a ped trying to use the crosswalk and I stop like I'm supposed to, but cars zoom past me and the ones behind me honk. You have never had a close call trying to cross a street? You must be the exception.

Nobody walks in L.A.! Pedestrians need to get out of the way!

John Q Public needs to get a grip on reality... you need to WALK to the car, don't you? Try doing that in a parking lot and often you get the same treatment as you do in a crosswalk. I've been HIT, running with full right of way in a crosswalk...saying "no one walks in LA" and get out of the way is retarded.
Thanks for dispatching cops of the ground to watch this. After almost having my head taken off by a motorist, I can relate that something needs to be done. And THANKS for doing it without the helicopter. Only reason I found this blog is that the helicopter situation is WAY out of control in Hollywood. Can you all please put more of the cops on the ground in Northridge over here so I don't have to hear a copter circling LOUDLY for an hour and a half at 230 am? 230AM!!! Thanks!

Hey Blue Egyptian, more cops on the ground would be great but we still need the air unit to help us find suspects running from us. I don't think you realize how many violent criminals would get away without our air unit. So when the helicopter wakes you up at 2:30 am, be thankful that officers are up in the air searching for the maniac who could harm you.
