118 LAPD Officers were honored on Monday 15, 2010, during the 30th Annual Recognition Day Awards
Ceremony. The event took place at the Ronald F. Deaton Civic Auditorium at the Police Administration Building. The auditorium was filled with Department Command Staff, family, friends and fellow Officers. Each individual recipients was awarded a medal for distinguishing himself by performing acts of bravery and heroism, saving or preservation of human life, exceptional performance of duty and outstanding service.
Chief Charlie Beck presented the awards and shook the hand of every single Officer who proudly walked the stage. “This is a great day for the Los Angeles Police Department, I am immensely proud of you, it is an honor to be your Chief and represent all of you.” Chief Beck stated. He emphasized that material things is not what’s important. What is important is the work that Officers do every day, “Everyone that wears this uniform, everyone that gets in the police cars every day, that is the grace and beauty of this profession.”
Most of the medals awarded were for rescuing victims in life and death situations. The heroic acts varied from rescuing victims from burning buildings and vehicles, to saving a thirteen year old boy from drowning at a local beach by an off duty Officer. The Different medals awarded included the Police Medal, Police Star, Police Life Saving Medal, and Police Meritorious Service Medal.

Why did the Lt. from SWAT get one? was he actually on an entry? I highly doubt it.
