• Police Commission President John Mack expressed his concern for Police Officer Steve Jenkins and said the events of the last couple of days have been tragic. He added his thoughts and prayers are with Officer Jenkins and his family.
• Police Chief Charlie Beck thanked the Commission and the community for the outpouring of support in light of the recent shooting of Police Officer Steve Jenkins. He informed the Board Officer Jenkins condition has been downgraded from critical to serious but added he is still facing a long road to recovery. Chief Beck said the Department will continue to offer its support to the family of Officer Jenkins. He also stated the Department has organized a blood drive in his honor at Central Division.
• The Executive Director’s report, dated March 30, 2011, relative to proposed amendment to police permit fees, fees for special services and establishment of a new special service fee for fiscal year 2011-2012, was approved and transmitted to the City Administrative Officer and Chief Legislative Analyst.
• The Department’s report, dated March 29, 2011, relative to DNA monthly report for February 2011, was approved and transmitted to the City Council.
• The Department’s report, dated March 23, 2011, relative to approval of the L.A. Impact Joint Powers agreement, was approved and transmitted to the Mayor and City Council.
• The Department’s report, dated April 5, 2011, relative to Fourth Amendment to agreement No. C-109495 with American Traffic Solutions, Inc. for the photo red light program was approved with an extension granted from month to month but not to exceed 90 days. The report was transmitted to the City Council. Sergeant Matthew Mac Willie informed the Board the red light cameras are located at 32 intersections throughout the City, have netted a 63% reduction in red light infractions, 18% reduction in injuries from collisions, 10% reductions in traffic collisions and 0 fatalities since its inception. He added the contractor has satisfactorily completed the maintenance duties throughout the term of the contract.
• The Department’s report, dated March 15, 2011, relative to recommendation for the Police Commission citation, was approved.
In regards to what happen yesterday in Sylmar. Is the City Of Los Angeles responsible for damage to the neighbors homes or is it there home owners.
