Tuesday July 26, 2024 - LAPD Northeast Community Police Station held a news conference to unveil two community murals.
Deputy Chief Jose Perez, Captain Bill Murphy, Director of Youth Violence and Gang Prevention Mr. Aida Cerda and the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital came together in a joint effort to unveil two murals.
The unveiling ceremony provided an opportunity for local residents, members of the clergy, nearby churches,community organizations and local businesses to acknowledge and support the community pride and artistic expression of some of the high-risk youth who live in Northeast Division area.
During the news conference, the 21’x16’ mural was unveiled. The mural was designed and painted by more than a dozen young artists.
Some of the key goals for this project were to nurture artistic talent by using art as a way to redirect troubled youth to positive outlets of expression, as well as to help build positive relationships among youth, community and police.
