Thursday January 5, 2012- Chief Charlie Beck and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced the 2011 End of Year Crime Statistics during a news conference in the COMPSTAT room of the Police Administration Building.
Chief Beck thankedMayor Villaraigosa and city officials for allowing the Police Department to operate at full strength even during tough economic times. During 2011 with the exception of Homicides, crime was at its lowest since 1967. Total violent crime was down 7%, property crime declined 5.5%. Total Part I crime was 5.8% lower, compared to 2010.
Recognized during the news conference were Deputy United States Marshals Louis Flores and Jonathan Lamb from the United States Department of State for their quick response in aiding and helping identify the serial arsonist who caused morethan fifty
fires in the City of Los Angeles.
