• Police Commission President Richard Drooyan said he attended the Above & Beyond Medal of Valor & Purple Heart Awards Ceremony last week and said the stories were remarkable. He said it was a vivid reminder of the dangers police officers face every day.
• Police Commission Vice President John Mack also attended the Above & Beyond Medal of Valor & Purple Heart Ceremony and said it was a very moving, inspiring and proud event. He added two of the recipients of the Medal of Valor were honored by President Barack Obama at the White House in Washington D.C.
• Police Chief Charlie Beck thanked the Commissioners who were in attendance at the Medal of Valor & Purple Heart Ceremony and said the event added to the many others which were held as part of Police Memorial Month. Chief Beck also stated the fourth annual Gun Buyback event was held this past Saturday and netted approximately 1700 guns. He also informed the Board the program has netted 8000 weapons over its four year history.
• The verbal presentation and update from the Commanding Officer and Community Police Advisory Board (C-PAB) representative regarding community initiated problem solving, crime strategies, and other programs and goals within the Olympic Area was given by Captain Tina Nieto. Captain Nieto stated their area has 25 C-PAB members with 20 active community members. Activities include community clean-up days, community night out gatherings and neighborhood watch. Youth programs include a Cadet program, a Deputy Auxiliary Police program and a Jeopardy program. They also have an Olympic Boosters Association which provides items to the division which are not made available in the regular City budget.
• The Inspector General’s report, dated May 7, 2012, relative to the review of the Department’s confidential informant control package inspection, was approved.
• The Department’s report, dated May 10, 2012, relative to the Ethics Enforcement Section quarterly report, first quarter, 2012, was received. The Board directed the Office of the Inspector General to submit an analysis of this report along with any appropriate recommendations to the Board.
• The Department’s report, dated May 4, 2012, relative to home-garaging authorities – fiscal year 2012/13, was approved.
• The Department’s report, dated May 4, 2012, relative to the Scientific Investigation Division – Firearms Analysis Unit audit – fourth quarter, fiscal year 2011/12 (IAID No. 12-005), was approved.
• The Department’s report, dated May 4, 2012, relative to the Gang Enforcement Detail, arrest, booking, and charging audit – third quarter FY 2011/2012 (IAID No. 12-012), was approved.
• The Department’s report, dated May 11, 2012, relative to the supplemental police account inspection, was approved.
• The Department’s report, dated May 4, 2012, relative to the first amendment to contract number C-117973 between the City of Los Angeles and Celplan Technologies, Inc., for a wireless camera surveillance system – Mission Area, was approved and transmitted to the Mayor.
• The Department’s report, dated May 4, 2012, relative to the destruction of obsolete original records – Central Traffic Division, was approved and transmitted to the City Clerk, Records Management Officer.
• The Department’s report, dated May 4, 2012, relative to the destruction of obsolete duplicate records – Devonshire Area, was approved and transmitted to the City Clerk, Records Management Officer.
