LAPD Releases Statement on School Safety

The entire Los Angeles Police Department is greatly saddened by the
tragic school shooting that occurred earlier today in Connecticut. At
this time there does not appear to be any connection with Los Angeles,
and it appears to be an isolated incident in Newtown, Connecticut.
LAPD personnel have been working closely with our partners at the Los
Angeles Unified School District Police Department LAUSDPD to ensure that
all students in all our schools are safe. Immediately after the shooting, we contacted the LAUSDPD and began coordinating our school safety efforts. All LAPD patrol divisions throughout the City of Los Angeles were directed to make contact with their local school principal or administrator to ensure there were no issues or concerns at any of our schools. In addition, LAPD officers were directed to provide additional patrols to all of our schools for the remainder of the day. Those patrols will continue when our students return from the holiday break on January 7, 2013. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families in Connecticut and all who are affected by this unspeakable act.” said LAPD Chief Charlie Beck. “The LAPD is totally committed to work with our LAUSD and private school partners to ensure that our students and staff are safe.” LAUSDPD Chief Steve Zipperman will join LAPD Commander Andrew Smith at a joint press conference at LAPD Headquarters this afternoon at 2 p.m. |

Why can't we train teachers? I was once a military instructor and due to the fact that the military has guns and an occasional nut case. We had a Back-up Alert Force(BAF), which was a designated group of instructors who were trained to react to a threat. What they did was when an alert occurred, deploy to the main office or an additional undisclosed location, each containing locked safes with firearms, ballistic gear and ammunition enough to address a threat while the Marine Corps Security Force Company responded on the outside. You can have most teachers be anti-gun but those few who believe in saving lives and stopping this kind of violence be trained to address these situations is an absolute! You can get rid of as many guns as you wish but I have NEVER seen a gang member give up his gun at a gun buyback, nor have I seen any known criminals.

Gun manufacturers, ammo manufacturers, and the video game industry feel they aren't responsible for the violence in America. Maybe congress can enact a gun tax law that funds cops at every school? For every gun and bullet sold 10 percent of that sale goes to the local police department. Why because guns are used to kill our citizens, children and yes, against our cops who confront these gun toting criminals.

Trying to control "things" and failing to hold people accountable for their actions won't make anyone safe. It's just feel good nonsense. Cars kill more people, including children, in the US than guns. Where is the outrage on drunk drivers, reckless drivers, and unlicensed drivers? Do we ban cars? No. We hold drivers accountable. Why the difference?
Gun Control is just a smokescreen that keeps politicians in the limelight, making us believe they're doing something. Leftists can't stand an armed populace and have been trying to disarm us for years. Just is just another opportunity to do so.
As an officer, my oath is to protect and defend the Constitution. Not to do what politicians order me to do in violation of the Constitution. They apparently forgot they took the same oath.

Another thing to put the sillyness of gun control in perspective: When seconds count, the police is minutes away.
Be responsible for your own family's safety, and stop relying on the nanny state.
