The 6th Annual Randy Simmons 5K Challenge Run is taking place on Saturday October 19, 2024 beginning at 8 a.m., rain or shine. The event will also include a fitness challenge and a Police Unity Tour bike ride of 26 or 50 miles.

Police Officer Randall Simmons, a 27-year veteran of the LAPD, was murdered in the line of duty on Thursday February 7, 2008. Officer Simmons became the first LAPD SWAT officer to die in the line of duty. Don't know if any of you LEOs have a perspective on this: Would a drone have helped prevent this officer's death and the grave wounding of Officer Veenstra? There are various legislative efforts underway across the country, proposed by various civil liberties groups, to limit domestic police agencies' use of drones. Some of these proposals are not well-grounded in the realities of how the devices might render some life-saving benefits. My opinion, anyway.
