2017 got off to a tragic start for the Los Angeles Police Department. Early this morning we were notified about the death of one of our police officers assigned to the Devonshire Division. Police Officer III Heather Monroe was off-duty when she was involved in a fatal traffic collision in Simi Valley. We understand Monroe was a passenger in the vehicle when it crashed. Losing an officer is devastating, but the pain is intensified for the men and women of the Department when it happens during what is supposed to be the happiest time of the year. The Simi Valley Police Department is investigating the crash and any questions should be directed to that agency.

My condolences to her family and LAPD. I had the pleasure to work with her for a bit. She was a great person and officer.
