Los Angeles – Today, the five members of the Los Angeles Police Commission unanimously agreed to reappoint William Bratton to a second five-year term as Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police Commission President John W. Mack stated, "In his first term, Chief Bratton provided visionary and progressive leadership for this Department. His efforts have greatly benefited the City of Los Angeles......
I keep hearing in the media about how high troop moral is under Chief Bratton...where is that coming from. Again, on this months opportunity list are 200+ vacancies that can not be filled by promotion. They are available by lateral movement only. This is nothing more than a shell game where one opening filled is a vacancy created elsewhere. When there is an upgrade it is not always filled with the best candidate but the one who "Looks best" in that spot. OVB is even rejecting selections made by area Captains and either making the gender/race preferred selection themselves or thowing out the oral altogether because the don't like the "look" of the outstanding pool. A Captain in a specialized division recently told his Lt.'s that he was not going to "leak" who was in the outstanding pool because if the employye knows how they did and they don't get selected they will grieve it. How about the officers who were administratively transferred to the "OO Task Force" against their will. Most of them had no idea this was happening and some, who are trying to get in their "steet time" towards promotion, have been told the time in the task force will not count. I also saw Chief Bratton on TV last night thank the "12,500 men and women of the LAPD", he must be counting the civilians, janitors and shop mechanics in that total. It's all smoke and mirrors people......

Well the wool has been tightly pulled over our eyes once again. Five more years (maybe) of our dear Billy Boy Bratton. Reading the comments from the press release you would think that Mother Teresa was reincarnated as Billy Boy. What a humanitarian, a visionary, A POSER.
This is the same man that barely knows or even cares to know the first names of people that work around him on a daily basis. The same man that wants the cops to respect citizens but publicly berates his subordinates with profane language and insults.
If anyone thinks he cares about this department or City than they are smoking some great Chronic. Billy Boy and the Mrs love the LA life style. As long as has a seat at the Academy Awards he will "Love LA."
Of course when his beloved Hillary Clinton becomes President he and that other poser Antonio Villa (he lost the Raigosa in the divorce) will move to DC and become parasites on a different constituency.
God bless America.....

So Antonio "Reconquista" Villa and his patsy's on the Police Commission gave Boston-Baked Bill Bratton another five years?? City Taxpayers must be breathing a big sigh of relief since you got him at the bargain basement price of only $300,000+ a year. It really is a deal for taxpayers because you would have had to pay the "Traveling Willbury" another $250,000 if he didn't leave the city 200 times a year seeking the next agency whose morale he can kill in order to further his self promotion! It's high time that Chief Bratton get "Wanked"..which is coming soon to a news outlet near you!.

I wonder how many frequent flyer miles Hollywood Bill has collected so far this year. Eventually, time we catch up to the chief. People will come to realize that he is cut from the same cloth as Mack, Jackson and Sharpton, just a different color.

Is there anyone in LAPD (sworn) that is satisfied with the Chief?
Is there a Chief that sworn has ever really been 100 percent satisfied with? If so please name him. This blog seems like nothing but a Chief bashing blog!

In response to MIdwest Gal, nope we'll never be 100% satisfied, but there is better out there. Our #2 chief, Jim McDonnell would be a great chief if given the chance. He's a cops cop, but still puts the needs of the public first. Everyone knows he'll never lead the LAPD, cause he's not the correct color. So those of us who push a blk/wht on a daily basis will wait and hope the old man leaves for the Feds by the end of next year, hopefully Chaleff,Birotte,Mack will follow him.

Hi Midwest gal: The answer to your question is,NO! Our Chief is a weak political hack! But that is what our city has decided it deserves! The safety of our city and it's children is in the hands of our "Mexico FIRST" Mayor, and our "I'm only here till something better and bigger comes along"" Chief! So we roll with the punches until the city burns down or someone with scruples takes the Mayors office! One or the other is going to have to happen, hopefully it's the ladder of the two, but I won't hold my breath.
Stay Safe, Warriors

It will be interesting to see how many new carpetbaggers the Chief will bring to Los Angeles from New York and Boston. Time to fatten the Chief's friends resumes in anticipation of a Democratically held White House.

Dear Midwest Gal,
I have to honestly say "no".
When Bratton first came to the LAPD, most of us said to ourselves, "Hey, he's not that bad." Bratton came out guns-a-blazzin' and wasn't taking any gruff from anyone. That was including the police commission, the mayors office and the city. He was no-nonsence, and at the time was far better than Bernard Parks. And moral was at an all time high for the first two years he was here.
But when he asked for more Officers, and the city told him no, he knew he had to dance to the commission's and the city's tune. So instead of the Bratton that we (Officers) first saw, is now a two-faced, cowtailing political hack who doesn't care enough about his Officers to even stand up for them.
So you may be asking yourself Midwest Gal "What could possibly make the Officers happy at the LAPD?" Well I'll tell you. We want a leader who will not cave into politics. Someone who will not throw his Officers under a bus when something doesn't look "politicaly correct". Someone who actually wants to be here and not looking for the next best thing. Someone who will not break his arm patting himself on the back everytime he creates some new wazoo bureau and says "He's lowering crime". He's not lowering crime, the Officers of this department are lowering crime!
I hope this just gives you a glimpse of how frustrated we are, and how we're tired of being slapped in the face.

congradulations chief bratton, your doing a great job.in today's society where many act like spoiled little children or professional victims, you have delt with the many complex problems of this beautiful, large and over crowed city.i am very pleased with the officers in the hollywood div.and i try my best to be involved with my neighborhood.its easy to complain,i guess its easier than getting involved in issues and concerns.thank you richard malchar

Very poignant, Code One. There is a term for the bureaucratic tendancy to overload administrators and middle management. It is called "featherbedding" and it is a misuse of taxpayer funds.
