Why is it so important to give a breakdown about what nationality graduated or sex for that matter. How bout, "26 Qualified persons graduated from the police academy today." I can't believe all this, especially the reverse racism in the selection process. It should be the best candidate that gets selected, not based on race, gender, or anything else......That is what civil rights activists wanted, EQUALITY. Not you get a job because you are a female, black, hispanic, or asian.

Are you kidding me? Who cares what race or gender the recruit grads are! Tell me what their Bonus score was! And how did they do on the tac challenge? My Lord, what is this place coming to? If you're going to put in info about the recruits, that's what the P-3's in the street want to know! I could care less what race my P-1 is if and when we are in the fight of our lives.

It's because this is LA and EVERYTHING is based on race, sex, or sexual orientation. It's just like the other post about the command staff promotions. They list how so and so is the first Asian to be promoted to a certain position or so and so is the first female, etc. Best qualified has little to do with getting hired or promoted in the LAPD anymore. It's all about political correctness.

As for why they don't post their bonus score or tac challenge score, that's because this blog is meant for civilians and most of them would have no idea what bonus qualification or the tac challenge is.

Overall I think that the recruits coming out of the academy are no better and no worse then the ones in the past. Most are highly motivated and some get it and some don't. It's common for officers to think that the academy was tougher and the recruits better when they were in but it just isn't so. I saw the same mentality in the military. Everybody likes to think that they had it tougher and were better than the new guys.

Who cares about the racial make up? What a crock of garbage!

Mr. O'Shea,

Real question for you. My 21 year old son wants to try out for LAPD. I'm not sure I want to support him and his wishes. He is going to school and is doing great on the dean's list. I have always supported his "dreams" and wishes but not sure if spending thousands of dollars on colleg to end up working for LAPD would be worth it. Strickly from where the department is now and considering that it might take him a year or two to get through all the test and everything else. IF this was your son would you support his wish to be a LAPD cop?

Riding The Fence Mom,
I have been with the LAPD for over 11 years. I have a BA degree in Business Management. It is definitely worth it for your son to complete his college prior to coming to the department. In fact, college is now required in order to promote to sergeant or above. He will also get paid more for having a college degree. Education is never a bad thing. Support your son in his dream.

FTO,

Thank you. My son and I are only 15 years apart. I know I made a mistake a long time ago. But we grew up together and with struggles and joys along the way I managed to turn out a pretty good young man. He just turned 21 and is in his third year at college. He is a remarkable man even if I say so myself. I worked many many hours first putting myself through school and always reminding him along the way that his only way to comfort and stability was an education and he paid attention. Thank you for your words of encouragment. I guess since he has been in my life more time then out of my life the thought of letting him go and try this is worrysome.
