Congratulations to all the brass moving up the chain. I'm excited that promotions are finally coming back around.

Any word on detective promotions? Sergeants? Any P-III advancements?

I read the memo, but I still don't get how there's a promotional freeze for the rank and file but command staff are promoted every month. Even if the decision is made by some outside entity that the Chief can't convince to delay these promotions, maybe these fine graduates of the West Point Leadership class can practice some "leadership by example" and forgo their raises.....even our mayor gave something up.

So far, the only members of the department that have "share(d) sacrifice" are the ones who actually worked and kept the citizens of LA safe.

Where's the money for this coming from? Looks like all the emphasis is on the top. Standard LAPD practice, protect the brass, cut back on the guys doing all the work.

I bet morale at LAPD is less than stellar right now, and I understand why.

The Department may not be a part of the the City of Bell, but the waste of money on promoting the "brass" is just as wasteful. Kudos to the mutual admiration society on the Department.

It's my understanding that each of these individuals are being sent to their new position and responsibilities WITHOUT being promoted.

Mike, there are a lot of folks on the Department who are assigned specific posts or positions without a promotion. The realiity is that the Department is overly top-heavy. These types of over-inflated positions should be the first to be scrutinized or audited to see if they are really necessary for the day-to-day function of the Department. Consolidation of responsibilities should be a goal, and seriously looked into.

Mike, yep, I read the Chief's message on the LAN website, but if this were the case why wasn't it explained right off the bat. And does the 56 day rule apply to captains and above? Seems a little suspicious to me.

At many specialized units, there are members of a lower rank filling that D-III, D-II or Sgt-II spot, but I've never seen a clear order giving these people the written, formal authority given to the command staff. I guess this will make their case harder to prove if they ever sue over the 56 day rule.

I hate to say this, but I wonder if someone looked into their salaries if we would find out that they ARE in fact getting paid at their new ranks.
