Los Angeles: On Monday, April 03, 2012, around 10:30 a.m., LAPD Devonshire Area officers responded to two different radio calls of “Vandalism” in the community of Northridge.
Devonshire Detectives conducted a follow-up investigation which led to the identification of all of the involved parties responsible for the alleged vandalism. The involved subjects responded to the station and provided formal statements regarding the incident.
The investigation revealed the involved individuals placed a Swastika using maple syrup at the scene of a private residence, in addition to committing other acts not amounting to criminal conduct.
Although no criminal conduct was established during these incidents, Hate Crimes and Hate incidents are not just a violation against an individual or group, but also against society as a whole. As such, the LAPD places a very high priority on hate crimes. The Los Angeles Police Department, Devonshire Detective Division aggressively investigated this mater to its resolution.

Tell me please the media is misreporting this crime story. They state the LAPD does not consider the leaving of Feces on a door with the word "Jew" and 2 swastikas in clear public view on the driveway as a hate crime. I've been a patrol officer for ten years and this clearly meets the standard so please explain the judgement made by a senior DIII or a Captain to state as reported, "because its written in maple syrup and can be was away, its not a hate crime." Please understand, in LAPD world, that sounds good. In Jewish America, LAPD is dismissing this hate crime because they are not sufficiently sensitive to the concerns of approximately 500,000 Jews in LA County, let alone the rest of the country. High school prank? Substitute some other ethnic group for "Jew" and publically announce that same judgement when it happens to them. As an officer, I'm hard pressed to give my own department the benefitof the doubt. My explanation to my fellow congregants at my Shul, that all the facts aren't known. I'm hard pressed to believe my own words that the LAPD Detectives and Brass probably based their decision on the totality of the circumstances when they don't share their thinking. Jews in general are a little sensitive these days with one of our most viscious enemies (Iran) working hard to create nuclear weapons after having stated they wish to wipe Israel from the map. This on top of local small Shuls and Jewish schools attacked and children and Rabbis shot in the street. Perhaps Chief Beck you should do more to reassure me, one of your Jewish Officers who lives here, that the department is concerned to protect if not my well-being, that of my family, friends, fellow congregants and Jews. There is a strong growing following that believes "America is no different". I urge the LAPD brass to learn what this phrase means in the Jewish community and not down play these acts with simple answers that your own officers can't accept.
