While the drop in violent crime is indeed impressive, it could more dramatic.
First, we need Sheriff Lee Baca to keep the inmates in custody for their entire sentence.....not just 10 percent as he has done. Next, we need Arnold to spend some significant money to build need prisons for 50,000 new inmates. This will make it difficult for the judges to keep putting the guilty on probation. There will be a place for them to keep them out of society.
Yes this will cost significant dollars and possibly mean a tax increase. But, if the safety of all of us is a priority, then we will have to face the price.
Face facts, the police can only due so much as catching the bad guys. It is the rest of the system that has broken down and need major attention.

I must give the LAPD credit. You guys have reduced crime so much in the last few years.
I wish my police force (London's met) could do the same - 26,858 robberies and 111,237 total violent crimes as of August 1st, and the rate continues to rise.
Why can't we reduce crime like the LAPD have done?
