Detectives Seek Help in Identifying Additional Suspects

Los Angeles:  Los Angeles police have arrested 30-year-old Marlo Jones for a January 5th robbery that occurred at a Universal City hotel.

On Jan 10, at around 8:50 a.m., LAPD officers stopped a vehicle which was known to have been used in the January 5th robbery.  The driver, Marlo Jones was arrested for robbery.  Jones is being held in lieu of $1,160,396.00 bail at Parker Center Jail.

On January 5, 2009, North Hollywood patrol officers were called to the 500 block of Universal Hollywood Drive to investigate a robbery.  Officers believe that the victim had just returned to his hotel room when he was confronted by a group of suspects, including two females.  The male suspects beat and choked the victim.  The suspects removed the jewelry that the victim was wearing and then stormed his room.  The suspects took additional jewelry and left the hotel.

Marlo “Bow Wow” Jones is currently a contract employee with Unity One, a subcontractor under the City’s LA Bridges II Gang Intervention program.  Consistent with Unity One policy, upon learning of his arrest, Jones was immediately terminated from his position.

Detectives are urging witnesses or anyone with additional information, about the other suspects or the location of the stolen property to come forward.

Anyone with information concerning this robbery is asked to call North Hollywood robbery detectives at 818-623-4061. After-hours or on weekends, calls may be directed to a 24-hour, toll-free number at 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (527-3247).  Callers may also text “CRIMES” with a cell phone or log on to www.lapdonline.org and click on Web Tips.  When using a cell phone, all messages should begin with “LAPD.”  All calls and contacts are anonymous.

Can the taxpayers get some reports on the effectiveness of these gang intervention programs? The city politicians are blindly throwing money at these programs with no accountability. I think we're talking millions of dollars here. Where is all this money going? Why are property tax payers paying for this?

Many of these so called interventionists are former gang bangers themselves. How are they to effectively deter kids from going down the same path if they did it themselves? What kind of role model are they anyways? Many of these guys still display tattoos, and walk the walk and brag about their gang status and exploits. They are just smarter criminals, and I think that the politicians and police chiefs have been duped.

I like the contractor working for a subcontractor bit. Way to pass the buck, wash their hands clean, and limit their liability. Nice touch. One only has to wonder why this is the case.

Gang Intervention like Unity 1 and unity 2 are a big sham. The city is wasting valuable tax dollars by employing thugs like this idiot.Instead of paying these morons the city should hire more cops or fix our budget problem.

these gang intervetion programs are just cover ups for current gang members to get their hands on other younger gang members. These so called mentors still hang out with gang members, still doing the gang thing. I have been around when they are doing their work for gang intervetion and then have seen many of them go home after along days work and sit and smoke dope or drink out in public places. Most have no idea or don't want to have any idea the two lives that these people are living.
