Los Angeles Police Department and The Autism Society of Los Angeles bridged the gap between law enforcement and the autism community by making Mission Possible a total success.
The goal of the event was to help officers and students feel more comfortable and prepared for an unexpected encounter. Officers were able to gain a better understanding to meet the needs of individuals with Autism. The students had the opportunity to build a personal relationship with a police officer while learning the importance of being safe.
During the event, 94 officers from LAPD, LA School Police and the LA County Sheriff’s Department participated in the learning exchange. The officers were paired with students from the Los Angeles Unified School District to learn valuable skills to stay safe in the event they ever had a police encounter.
