Commission President Matt Johnson opened the meeting and a quorum was established. Consent Agenda Items were unanimously approved. The meeting proceeded to Commissioner comments.
Commissioner Saltzman mentioned the Police Commissioners had a significant hearing last week reviewing the Department’s own report about Use of Force. The 300 page report is available to the public which provide great detail about the Use of Force issues with the Police Department.
Assistant Chief Paysinger provided some general crime statistics covering Year-To-Date. There was a slight decrease in property crime. Geographically, there was an increase in crime in Central and South Bureau, and a reduction in crime in Valley and West Bureau. Assistant Chief Paysinger reported the Department has 9,894 LAPD officers, 2,692 civilian personnel, and just more than 7,000 cadets in the youth program. Assistant Chief Paysinger mentioned that gang violence contributes to about 40 to 45 percent of homicide and violent crime increase.
