Officer Accidentally Fires Weapon

Los Angeles: A Los Angeles Police Department officer accidentally fired his weapon.

On April 2, 2007, at about 6:25 p.m., Officer Chad Butler, assigned to 77th Gang Enforcement Detail, was retrieving his primary weapon from the gun locker, when he accidentally discharged his weapon.  One round was fired into the ground and no one was injured as a result.

77th Division is handling the investigation.

Officer Butler has ten years and nine months with the Los Angeles Police Department.
