Alert Officer Briefly Delays Arrivals at Emmy Awards

Los Angeles: An alert officer working a pre-designated checkpoint for the 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards briefly delayed all traffic at the various checkpoints when he discovered a real-looking Airsoft-type rifle in the trunk of a car entering a secure area.

After a brief investigation, it was determined that the driver was a contract worker of a vendor associated with the event.  The rifle was determined to be a common Airsoft-type rifle, available at most sporting goods and discount stores.  The Incident Commander for the Awards event, Commander David Doan stated, “We train for a variety of threats.  The officers responded exactly as expected.  Once the threat was analyzed and dismissed, all of the checkpoints were re-opened.”

The explanation provided by the driver and his employment status checked out.  He was allowed to continue to his work assignment.

The checkpoints were closed for only five minutes and the entire incident lasted 20 minutes from 3:56 pm to 4:16 pm.
